Tips for Long Life Tires

  • Check the tire air pressure monthly – Over time, tires will gradually lose air–up to a pound per square inch of pressure each month–and as the weather changes the tire pressure will change as well. Be sure to check your tire pressure regularly and refill your tires when needed. It’s best to keep them at the correct levels.
  • Have your tires rotated every 5,000 miles – Tires need to be rotated to ensure that the tire treads wear evenly, especially with front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive models. Tire rotation can slow down the tire wear on any single tire in your set of tires.
  • Balance your wheels – After your tires are rotated, make sure to have them balanced. If the weight is distributed to one wheel more than the other, this could also create uneven wear.
  • Have the alignment checked twice a year – Tire alignment is essential to safe driving and tire longevity. Misalignment can happen gradually, or if you hit a curb or pothole for example. If your wheels are misaligned, you’ll notice the steering wheel may shake.
